Last night I went to a preview showing of Skeleton Key. This haunted house/hoodoo movie set in the deep south provided a diverting way to spend the evening. However, with that said, let me mention that the audience was as much fun, if not more fun, than the movie. It was a lively NYC crowd, full of people reacting to the movie. The women behind us kept saying things like, "This girl's got balls! I would be out of there." And of course, every time something scary happened, shrieks rang through the theater. The movie itself, was fun, but not an incredible film. The cast all did a fine job with the material, but the direction and pacing left a little bit to be desired. The film seems to stagnate in the middle like the Louisiana swamp water that lies near the old mansion in the film. Luckily it does manage to pick itself up towards the end in time for a little twist. While the ads sell this twist as the best one since the Sixth Sense, it has all the subtlety of a bull in a china shop. Skeleton Key is a bit predictable, but still a fun horror film, especially with the right audience! Don't forget to check out NYC Stories Gear at http://www.cafepress.com/nycstories
