Geek Theater or The One-Man Star Wars Trilogy

posted Thursday, 22 September 2005

Last night
I entered a
world of geekdom.
A world where it is not
only ok, but the accepted
norm to wear a t-shirt to a
theater just off of Times Square.
A world where Yoda reigns supreme.

That's right, I saw The One-Man Star Wars Trilogy, and I liked it. In fact I laughed a lot.

Anyone who has ever seen the Star Wars movies (episodes IV, V, and VI) will enjoy this one-man, one-hour adaptation/spoof of all three movies. Charles Ross grew up watching these movies over and over again, and now he lives them in his head and on stage, over and over. But with some tongue in cheek humor added. It is this sense of humor, coupled with the idea of watching a full grown man play act like a child, that gives this show its charm and appeal. Not to mention the strong connection so many of us have to these movies.

During the show, Mr. Ross plays all of the roles, the special effects, the music, and the sound effects. In fact, he pretty much does everything except the lighting. He is able to deftly switch between characters at a moments notice.

So if you have ever seen Star Wars and you have an hour to kill some evening, this may just be the perfect venue for a good laugh.

On a side note, Mr. Ross has also developed a One-Man Lord of the Rings. What a surprise.
