The dive block between 13th and 14th on 8th Ave. seems to have defied Chelisfication for a number of years. That, however, seems to be changing. Today, while walking by I discovered construction had been going on on one of the spaces, obviously to turn it into a much more upscale location. Just a couple of doors down Sergio Davila has an upscale store front open on that block. One has to wonder how long the Sweetheart Bakery will last before the rents go up and it is driven off the block. Signs in the windows of the antique store on the block indicate that a liquidation sale is going on and that everything must go. Ironically, this seems to include all of the original business on the block. Don't forget to check out NYC Stories Gear at http://www.cafepress.com/nycstories
I live beside the sweetheart bakery. I hope it leaves sooner rather than
later. We have rats in the basement (they come from under the bakery).
There are roaches everywhere in that shop. Gross.
