The one thing that tends to hold true about NYC is that is can be a tough place to live. When everything lines up correctly, it's the most wonderful place on earth. However, during those periods of misalignment, watch out. E. B. White wrote of New York City, "It can destroy an individual, or it can fulfill him, depending a good deal on luck. No one should come to New York to live unless he is willing to be lucky." And it is just that quote that all of us who live here need to remember. Accept New York and ride the waves that it takes you on, and all will turn out well. Fight the tides of the city and your are fighting a battle you will not win.
When things go well for you in the city, everything about your life seems to go well. A good job compliments a great apartment. Or maybe a great love life. But you can never have all three according to Armistead Maupin. Still, two out of three ain't bad. So keep your chin up at all times and let the luck come to you. Or make your own luck. Either way, be willing to be lucky.
